I’m in LOVE! One of my favorite illustrations recently in the studio is hand-painting wedding couples.

I’ve been studying Folk Art for several months now and LOVE the simplicity of the style. It is truly a challenge to simplify my art since I am more of a realistic style of painter. I adore illustrating wedding couples with watercolor paints for a transparent dreamy look.

I painted the wedding couple above for Kelley and Anthony’s thank you cards. Super sweet!

Another wedding couple illustration I painted was for a very sweet client Sarah and her new husband William.

The brides’ dresses are custom illustrated to match their bridal gowns they wore on their wedding day! The grooms’ attire was painted to match what they actually wore on their wedding day. So much fun!

I am in LOVE with cursive style fonts! My favorite cursive font is Business Penmanship. The business handwriting font is vintage and lovely! It reminds me of the 3rd grade when I first learned cursive writing. Following are my 7 favorite cursive fonts!

I found a detailed website regarding how to write in cursive Business Penmanship style writing. The font style is so elegant and smooth.  I took a quick practice sketch run with the ideas on their site.

I have to practice this a lot more, my first try is a bit wiggly!! <3

I love the handwriting style fonts for addressing envelopes! If you think you have chicken scratch for writing, these fonts will come to your rescue this holiday. Perfect for addressing those Christmas Cards.

Yay! This week my favorite fonts have a nautical flair!

I adore all things nautical. After work during the spring, summer, and early fall you will find my family and I sitting lakeside enjoying the serene scene. Just lovely!

Beach chic!

This collection of fonts are my favorite for beach wedding invitations and destination wedding stationery. Fun. Fresh. And going with the flow! That is my type of font.

1. Always – This font is still popular for beach wedding couple names on custom invitations in our studio!

2. Aphrodite – A handmade romantic font that is perfect for a nautical beach wedding.

3. Bellucia  – Not brand new, however this is a keeper. LOVE the hand-calligraphy look. Just perfect!

4. Cantoni Pro  – NEW and super lovely. Hand-calligraphy font by one of my favorite font designers. xo

5. Carolyna Pro – A fabulous calligraphy style font. The swirls remind me of ocean waves!

6. Carolyna Pro Black  – Another fabulous calligraphy style font, a bold version of No. 5

7. La Portenia – A lovely flourishing script reminds me of writing in the sand.

8. Memoir – Romantic handwritten font. Also reminds me of writing in the sand!

9. Ministry – A 1920s American ad art script with a modern twist. Lovely!

10. Miss Le Gatees – In the 1930s hand-lettering was a very popular occupation, this font mimics the handwritten legible nature of the hand letter artists craft.

11. Montague Script – One of the most lovely brush-script fonts I have seen and used.

12. Satisfaction – Inspired by 1930s ads, this font is a popular handwritten style for invitations today.

13. Tagettes – This font is a freebie! Fun and pirate like. Often used for an island wedding invitation design.

I am over the moon excited to be painting every single day. This is only a few of this weeks custom painted invitations watercolor art. (plus the fun “October” flower I painted for fun!)

This weekend we attended the most lovely RUSTIC themed wedding! With touches of vintage elegance, burlap, and lace in gray, pink, and fallow brown.

Love this beach wedding inspiration board!! Don’t you?

I have been hand-lettering since the age 9. (It all started in Girl Scouts when we learned calligraphy) I am not a master now by any means. At. All. I have a lot of practicing to do.

A super sweet friend is getting married this weekend and asked me to hand-letter her favorite quote on a chalkboard.

I was so nervous I was going to really mess it up. But I gave it a whirl!

You can make a wedding chalkboard with little supplies. All you need is… a chalk board (I used a 23″ x 35″ board), chalk marker, a little container to add the paint to, and a paint brush.

First you will want to design your chalkboard. Make sure the lettering will fit in your chalkboard dimensions perfectly.

I used the smaller chalk marker to outline my lettering. When that was finished, I went back and filled in the lettering with the paint brush. I took a larger chalk marker and pushed it into a container to capture a puddle of chalk paint. This made it super easy for me since I am use to painting with watercolor paint. I would dip my paint brush into the chalk paint and apply to the chalkboard slowly and carefully.

You will want to be very careful when moving your hand over the painted lettering to avoid smearing. The more layers you add the more white the lettering will appear. You will want to wait to add new layers to avoid pulling up your previous painted brushstrokes.

The finished hand-lettered chalkboard art took over 1 hour for me to paint. This did not include the design time.

Once I finished the hand-drawn chalk lettering with my paint brush, I painted a few long dashes near the edges. I then smudged the chalk paint to give the board a little more of a chalkboard look. You could add more if you like.

After researching pricing, a custom chalkboard wedding sign this size would cost about $250.00.

Woweee! It has been a long time since I created an inspiration board for a wedding couple. I almost forgot how much fun it is!

Kathleen wants to incorporate trees, gorgeous flowers, and the colors cranberry, navy blue, and vintage light blue on her custom wedding invitations in a bottle. So many bottle colors to choose from! I love the NEW blue glass bottles. Just gorgeous!
