Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab Wedding Invitations

Pinch me! Working with watercolor crab and adirondack chair art always makes feel like I’m sitting by the sea!!

Introducing … The CHESAPEAKE BAY Design!

This Chesapeake Bay wedding invitation is an original hand-crafted custom design featuring my original hand-painted artworks. Beautiful shades of blue, navy, white, and pearl hues lends the look of a coastal collage. The soft pearl color background card layer resembles seashells found on the seashore.

Personalized nautical flags replicate the couples first initials on the reply card. Fonts, ink colors, and more can be customized just for you.

The tri-fold pocketfolder keeps your wedding details perfectly organized for your guests. On the right side the reply card and envelope as well as the accommodations card is tucked into the pocket neatly. On the front, a personalized card with a border of pearlized sparkle cardstock.

Bridal shower invitations, rehearsal dinner invites, save the dates, menus, wedding programs, table cards, name seating cards, thank you cards, and more are available to match your sea-worthy stationery theme.

The navy sparkly folder resembles the sea basking in the sunlight. If you REALLY love sparkle, we can hand-paint the blue crab with a bit of fine sparkle to add a handmade touch!

This design is customizable to match your color scheme. Create a new nautical look with an anchor motif, compass, sailboat, oars, and more. Remember, I am an artist and LOVE to help you express your unique personal style! Most times I already have the artwork you are looking for.

Illustrated Wedding Couples for Custom Wedding Stationery

Hand-painted bride and groom artwork is whimsical way to customize your wedding stationery. This first artwork was illustrated for our clients’ wedding save the date. I then thought, how adorable to feature a wedding couple on announcements, programs, thank you cards, and other wedding stationery!

You can choose skin tone, hair color and style, dress style, tux style, and colors! Even change the color of the brides heels if you want to. Custom wedding couple illustrations start at $50.00. Stationery additional cost. At this price the artwork is not released for personal use to the client.

After completing your custom wedding couple artwork, we print your stationery here at My Personal Artist for you. Questions? Or if you want a quote on custom save the dates, email me today! [email protected]

Custom Made Wedding Invitations

Send the Scene! What a unique way to invite your guests to your wedding. I have painted venues for wedding couples and where they will marry. My clients preferred the art be watercolor and large! Here you will find two examples. The art is printed at 5.5″h x 7.75″w then glued by hand to a colorful card to match their wedding colors. On the back is another card printed with the invitation text. That makes this card a hefty 3 layers. The art is a true keepsake for all guests to save forever.

The cost for such a painting does vary depending on the details involved. Feel free to email me today for a quote! [email protected]

Sarah’s Nautical Wedding Stationery

JUST MARRIED!!! Congratulations to Sarah and George! A HUGE thank you to Sarah for sharing her nautical wedding photos with us by Justin Pedrick Photography! And thank you to Justin for allowing me to share your photos!

I TRULY enjoyed working with Sarah (who is a designer) on her custom nautical wedding invitations, save the date cards, table cards, place cards, and thank yous! Love the fact that she used Pantone® Spring 2013 colors MONACO BLUE and POPPY RED in her unique design! First, I hand-painted a row boat in watercolor for her wedding invitations. Printed on thick 110lb. white cardstock and layered in sapphire metallic and jupiter red metallic sparkling cardstocks. Each invite was wrapped with a hand-tied wraphia ribbon around the center adorned with a handmade tag reading: “Live, Love, Sail.”

The font SATISFACTION was a perfect match for the overall nautical sea-worthy design. Sarah and George are avid sailors and wanted each table card to be named after a boat they have sailed! Adorable idea.

Each place card boasted a custom designed anchor logo, hearts, guest names, food choices, and table name. All organized and fit perfectly!

Now that Sarah’s custom design is complete it will find a home in our Signature Collection Wedding Invitations gallery.

What a GREAT joy it was working with Sarah and her mother Mary! xoxoxo

Butterfly Wedding Invitations + Ideas

After receiving several requests for butterfly wedding invitations, I felt the NEED to find the perfect butterfly wedding ideas for an ELEGANT butterfly garden theme. After much searching I finally found the perfect butterfly favors, wedding cake with butterflies, butterfly bouquet, and wedding attire to match the beautiful theme. I love the idea of an orange bridesmaid dress because of the vibrant orange wings of a monarch. Splashes of lilac and crisp black pull the look together. Other fun wedding colors for a butterfly theme wedding are bright cobalt blue and bright pink!

I call this mix of tropical colors TROPICAL BLEND. I find this color combo to be softer than normal pop of hot pink hues tropical blends. Botanical and earthy with a splash of sea. So very beautiful!

When Megan told me her colors were yellow and gray, I was VERY interested in seeing her wedding inspiration photos. She had them handy and sent over right away. {I do not have the reference of the sources for the photos, other than, from the bride-to-be.}

Papel Picado Vintage Old Spanish Wedding Invitations

mexican folk art papel picados wedding ideas

I am DEEELIGHTED to share my clients, Nancy and Richard’s, custom wedding invitations with you!! (personal wording details were changed for the photo above) Nancy wanted me to design a vintage, bohemian, old Spanish/Mexico wedding invitation for her boasting hand-painted papel picados. Papel Picado means perforated paper and features Mexican folk art. She showed me photos for inspiration which I have now included in the idea board above! I fell in love. So very romantic and the colors… amazing hues of burnt orange, pops of yellow, pink rose, and grass greens as well as bluish greens. I was thrilled to be able to actually hand-paint their names in the custom papel picados for their invitation design!

The succulent bouquet, wedding cake, and candles photographs are by the fabulous This Modern Romance Photography. (A HUGE Thank You to them for giving me permission to share the photos!) The color swatches and invitation photos are by My Personal Artist Custom Invitations (that’s me!). The oh-so-romantic hand-embroidered bride-to-be’s wedding dress can be found at BHLDN. The papel picados photo by Mexican Sugar Skull.

When you are preparing to have me design your custom invitations, send me your personal inspiration photos or create a Pinterest board for me to view!! This way I can match up your personal style for your wedding or event invitations perfectly!

Customizing Our Layered Beach Wedding Invitations

handmade beach wedding invitations

At My Personal Artist customizing our hand-crafted layered invitations to fit your beach wedding color scheme is easy! After you order, tell us the colors you want to see. For instance Amy wanted to see all kinds of blues used in comparison with our original brown and sand metallic shimmering cardstock design on our The Lara Ann Design beach wedding invitation. Note how the slight difference in card colors can change the look and feel of our beach theme invitations.

As always you can customize your invitation color to match any color scheme. If you are using hot pink, orange, purple, teal, green, or red! No worries, we delight in customizing your invites! And don’t forget you get to choose your invitation font and font ink colors also! If you want to make one of my artworks larger or smaller, go for it. Just note this in your order. The center invitation card piece, fonts, ink colors, and envelope art has stayed the same throughout all photos. Adding a slightly different hue changes the invite so ever slightly. Which one is your favorite?

P.S. – I normally do not assemble the invitation cards. If they appear off a tiny bit, they might be. Note that James (my husband of 20 years, in May!!!!!!!!!) assembles your invitations PERFECTLY! xo

What Wedding Stationery Do I Need?

Over the past 14 years I have had this question asked often… “What stationery pieces do I need for my wedding?” Of course the answer for everyone is different. Some just print up invites and have their rsvp on the invite. Some buy ALL pieces possible including fan programs. Read the descriptions below to help you decide what you TRULY need.

what wedding stationery do i need

SAVE THE DATE CARD

The save the card announces you wil be married! Giving your guests a heads up is GREAT especially if you are having an out of town / destination wedding! You can mail these out 8-12 months in advance. View samples of our save the date cards.

WEDDING INVITATION
Sets the stage for your SPECTACULAR wedding day! This card INVITES your guests to your wedding! If your invite is truly unique, your guests may hang your invite on their frig for months. Our customers have bought the invitations with the vellum overlay and art on the 2nd layer card. We are told their guests take off the vellum and frame the card art! How fun! Be unique! REMEMBER, order ONE per household and NOT one per person. This will save you money. Order invitations 4 months before your wedding and mail them 2 months before your special day. View samples of our wedding invitations.

RESPONSE CARD
Your guest will reply to you using this card! Normally the reply by date is 1 month before your big day. We found a reply by date at least 1 month before your wedding day allows you to prepare your last minute wedding stationery pieces with less stress.

SMALL CARD / INFORMATION CARD
The small card can be used for a reception, direction card, registry card, or hotel and additional information you guests will need. Many times, people will list events and times for guests also. Remember, NEVER write “No gifts” on your invitation or small card.

OUTER ENVELOPE
Your invite and other cards go in the inner envelope then the OUTER ENVELOPE. You address it to mail to your guests. We print your return addy on the back flap! These are normally nonlined.

INNER ENVELOPE
Your invite and other cards go in the INNER ENVELOPE then into your outer envelope. You write or have us print your guest names on this envelope. This helps your guests know WHO is invited. They say the inner envelope originated when the mail was delivered on horse back. To keep the invitation neat and free of mud and debris, the invitation was inserted into the inner envelope. The outer envelope kept the inner envelope clean and neat in appearance, as your guest opened their invite.

The inner envelope is sometimes used for decorative purposes, by lining with beautiful colors.

You can write the guests names on this envelope also. This allows you to invite exactly who you want to your wedding. For instance you write “The Miller Family” on the outer envelope front along with their address. Inside on the inner envelope you would write “John, Kathy and Liz”. This way they know their daughter Liz, age 15, is invited but their other 2 younger (ages 1 month to 3 years), children are not. if everyone is invites you would write everyone invited on the inner envelope. Unfortunately some people will bring the younger children invited or not. be prepared.

THANK YOU CARD
Thank you cards rock! they are the BEST! They thank your guest! Try to mail these out ASAP! Guests get super sad when they receive their thank yous 2 months later! Before you marry … address your thank you card envelopes all you will have to do when you RECEIVE a gift is write the thoughtful thank you…throw in the envelope and mail that day!

INFORMAL CARD
See thank you card above. The informal card has your names on the front instead of the word “thank you.”

WEDDING ANNOUNCEMENT
Announces your wedding day! A document that announces a special occasion has occurred or will occur. Contains a date and description. For wedding, it is said, you should not announce the time your wedding occurred. This card is often used to announce and invite guests to a reception at home after a destination wedding couple has already been married away from home then will return to parteeee! You should mail your announcements ON your wedding day.

MENU
Shows your guests what you will be eating at the reception.

TABLE CARD
Shows your guests what table number or name of the table is. Some of our creative brides name their tables after islands, beaches or countries you have visited together! On the place card or escort card you would list “You are seated at table number ___.”

PLACE CARD / SEATING CARD / ESCORT CARD
Shows your guest’s name and what table they will sit at the reception. Again, on the place card or escort card you would list “You are seated at table number ___.”

WEDDING FAN
Cools your guests and also doubles as a cool favor and/or program!

WEDDING PROGRAM
Helps your guests follow your ceremony and introduces them to your wedding party. this also helps them understand some traditions you choose to incorporate in your ceremony. View samples of our wedding programs.

Pocket Folder Beach Wedding Invitations

I just finished up Rachel and Shawn’s custom beach wedding invitations. The pocketfolder invitation style was the perfect choice for their destination wedding in Florida. Adorned with beachy watercolors like seahorses, seaturtles, palm trees, and more! The folder is fitting sand metallic and the front tab and inside layer is buttercream lined in bronze metallic. They will marry under the palm trees I hand-painted for their information card. They both LOVE scuba diving and wanted to incorporate all they love on their wedding stationery. Whimsical yet still elegant!

P.S. – Pardon the blurred areas on the photo. I respect my clients privacy and never feel comfortable giving away their private details online.

Wedding Invitation Trends 2012-2013

HAND PAINTED WATERCOLOR INVITATIONS
I am delighted to see such love for hand painted invitations AGAIN this year. Wowwwweeeee! It’s every where! I was so excited about the hand-painted wedding invitations trend I started doing it… 14 years ago!!! What invitation artist wouldn’t be thrilled to jump on this hand painted designs band wagon though? I don’t blame them. Rich vibrant watercolor, sparkling paints, thick acrylic add ons, watercolor washes, and more!

RUSTIC ELEGANCE
Think burlap, vintage lace, barns, banners, hanging outdoor lights, blue and clear mason jars full of long stemmed flowers, cardboard / kraft color cards with white ink, and more! Rustic wedding invitations have a vintage twist that is ALL the rage in 2012-2013.

BOLD COLORS or NEUTRALS
Many of our 2012-2013 wedding couples are opting for more bold colors this year. Also, many are ordering more neutral tones such as khaki, champagne, white, and off white. There seems to be no in between when choosing invitation ink colors this year. It’s all or nothing. Teal and Purple seem to be rising to the top of the color choice chart. Bright Pink and Malibu Blue are also popular ink choices.

LETTERPRESS or RAISED INK THERMOGRAPHY
Our chic clients want high quality invitations that have substance and texture. Letterpress and raised ink thermography printing have the luxe look and textrue many of our clients are looking for.

HANDWRITTEN FONTS
Getting back to basics. More and more font designers are designing fonts that have a handwritten look and feel. The lines of a handwritten font are more jagged and less smooth. The handwritten calligraphy style fonts are popular choice among our clients. Fonts in invitation design are more casual then they were a decade ago. More couples want all lower case or all upper case text. It is still very popular to make the couples names stand out. For instance the names may be 4pts larger than the invitation body text or in a totally different font all together. But more recently couples want their names as BIG as you can get them on the card. Why not? It’s their special day!

PERSONAL STYLE
Designing invitations that reflect your personal style is gaining more popularity than ever! More and more couples are illustrating their hobbies, favorite vacation spots, where they met, where they had their first date, and more on their wedding stationery wardrobes.

ARTISTIC FLAIR
I recently did research for 2012 fashion trends and I am delighted to inform you that hand sketched flowers (not the already popular hand painted flowers) will make their debut in fashion! I’m talking about outline sketches. LOVE! I have added even more sketched flowers to my already blossoming floral wedding invitations collection. I hand-illustrated an anemone flower, sunflower, rose, dahlia, and gardenia flower with loose hand-drawn sketched techniques. This style will not disappoint and I am sure will remain popular through 2012! I need to gather those examples together to show you! In the meantime following is my hand-sketched gardenia artwork I illustrated for my client Marissa’s custom wedding invitations and stationery.

POCKET FOLDERS
Our clients LOVE pocket folder wedding invitations. These handmade folders with gorgeous colorful layers are perfect for destination weddings. They hold ALL details and help your guests stay organized while planning their get-away to your wedding day!

MOTIFS / ARTWORK
We are seeing many new and traditional motif choices this year. Monograms are hot! Peacock feathers, branches with flowers, daisy flowers, beach theme artwork, are still among the most popular choices for motifs. More rustic elegance and vintage themes are emerging. Vintage themes with lace, vintage postage stamps and romantic elegance are proving to be popular choices with our clients.

Most of our clients strive to be unique and are always on the cutting edge in fashion and personalized style. No matter your style, express yourself and ENJOY! And as always HAVE FUN!!!

Custom Wedding Invitation Design Ideas

The search seems endless. You have looked high and low for wedding invitations different from your cousin’s and friends’ cookie cutter invitation styles that seem to be either cheaply “homemade” or over done to the extreme. You crave wedding invitations to fit your personality and style and feel like giving up. Well I’m here to tell you don’t fret. You are not alone. I’ve been working with wedding couples for over 14 years. Helping them create the perfect wedding invitation to fit their style. In this article I will outline idea categories to assist you in discovering your personality, style and the perfect theme or no theme for your invitations! As you read these categories ask yourself, is this ME? Do I LOVE this theme, color, motif, or idea? At the end of the article you will have a better understanding on what wedding invitations style will fit your personality best.

THEME
Invitation and stationery theme. Do you need one? Not necessarily. However, today many couples express their personality through their wedding stationery. For instance recently I worked with a couple who loves peacock feathers. The peacock feather became a theme for their event so they had me design colorful peacock feather invitations  especially for them. Beach wedding invitations are highly popular with my clients and a theme I ADORE! If you love the sea this theme may be for you. Does this mean you have to have embossed seashells gracing your invitation design? Of course not. You can still achieve a “chic beach theme” with palm tree fronds wedding invitations or by using light blue paper with chocolate brown raised ink. Maybe you love to drink wine or enjoy visiting your local winery. A lovely vineyard theme is a must for you. Think, wine color inks on buttercream cards. A bunch of watercolor grapes are always fun to include! Step it up a notch with letterpress printing over the grapes artwork for an elegant and truly unique look. Maybe you love more of a rustic wedding theme . Think lace, doilies, barns, cute cowboy boots, chandeliers, hanging outdoor lights, woodgrain, muted hues, an old oak tree, and my goodness how could I forget burlap!!!  A groom who is a mailman and his last name is mailman recently enjoyed my vintage airmail wedding invitations design! Another creative couple I recently worked with sent me photos of their bicycles. I hand painted the illustration and we printed their bike theme wedding announcements and matching stationery for them. They carried the theme through all aspects of their wedding right down to the cake. Don’t have a theme in mind? No worries, maybe the theme is YOU. When I met with Jill and Thomas this was the case. So, I suggested I hand draw a silhouette of the couple and we incorporate into their stationery. Their eyes lit up and the look and “theme” was stunning. They were able to take the digital silhouette art  and incorporate on menus and more! Another couple truly had NO idea of a theme of motif to use. But they wanted to incorporate something. So I asked them, how did you meet? They began to tell me a super sweet story on how they met while volunteering at the Humane Society! Well there you go. So one of my custom design projects right now is to paint 2 dogs and a cat for their reply card art. If you aren’t feeling a theme you love let’s turn to color as your invite design theme…

COLOR
Choosing a color for your wedding and stationery is quite simple. What color or colors do you LOVE? Do you always wear red high heels? Do you love yellow? Maybe you love the beach and natural colors of sky blue and light sand brown? Incorporating your colors on your invitations can be done with ink, paper, ribbon, and or pocket folders. Or maybe you opt for an all white wedding look which is popular. Your text can be printed in silver or gray to keep the monochromatic look seamless and elegant.

STYLE
Choosing your invitation card style is easy! Are you a “less is more” type of person? Then an elegant simple white invitation card with a lovely black letterpressed font may be perfect for you. Love embellishments? A white card with a colorful background layer and a hand-tied ribbon around the middle will be the perfect fit for you. If you are a beach chic couple and your guests will only expect the very best, a beach themed invitation in a box is a great choice!

Most of our clients strive to be unique and are always on the cutting edge in fashion and personalized style. Express yourself and ENJOY!! And have the most fun! Cheers!
